Jean Viard

Jean Viard is a Research Director at the Centre for Political Research at Sciences Po (CEVIPOF). He is a specialist in social time management (leisure management, impact of the 35-hour working week), in urban and rural areas (town and country planning, agricultural issues) and in political issues in contemporary French society. He is the former chairman of two think tanks: one on economic development policy and planning in tourism for the Commissariat au Plan and one on rural development for DATAR (a French government body which works on urban and regional development policy). He also works as a consultant for local government and industry. Dr Viard regularly gives lectures and conferences on issues related to his research interests and has published extensively on all of these questions. Recent publications include Le sacre du temps libre and Le nouvel age du politique, Editions de l’Aube, France.

Dr Viard holds a PhD in sociology from the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), in sociology and tourism. He also holds a degree in Economics.
